Eutrophication
in Lake Biwa: multi-scale response of the crustacean zooplankton

Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, has
experienced eutrophication from late 1960s to mid 1980s.
I will present the result of analyses conducted on long-term data series to
illustrate the different responses of crustacean zooplankton to eutrophication.
The population response of key species was investigated at different temporal
scales. The results contribute to the debate about the use of zooplankton as
indicator of environmental changes in Lake.
